Texas men's basketball coach Chris Beard was arrested Monday morning for domestic violence.

Beard, 49, is currently  going through the booking process at the Travis County Jail, "He is in our custody" said Kristen Dark, senior public information officer 

Police arrested Beard in Austin, Texas, and booked at 4:18 a.m. on a third-degree charge of "assault of a family/household member, impede breath circulation," or strangulation.

He is currently the head men's basketball coach at the University of Texas at Austin. 

He was born on February 18, 1973 in Marietta, Georgia, United States.

previously coached at Texas Tech, Little Rock, Angelo State and McMurry. Chris Beard is a graduate of McCullough High School in The Woodlands, Texas. 

He was a manager at Texas under Longhorns coach Tom Penders, graduating in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. 

The Texas Tech Red Raiders had the deepest NCAA Tournament run in school history while Beard served as the team's head coach. 

Beard became the 25th head coach at the University of Texas on April 1, 2021.  Beard is the father of three daughters. 

Beard was arrested for third-degree felony strangulation of a family member.
